Teachers have been told to grow up and understand that educational reforms are not there to victimize anybody.

Education Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum made this statement while clarifying the Proficiency Test and Open Merit Recruiting System.

Engaging with teachers along the Suva and Nausori corridor in a talanoa session, Education Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum was determined to provide clarity on doubts surrounding some of the reforms.

“Yes I completely accept the fact that the job test in respect to whether the computers are not working and people have not done the right thing, that’s the responsibility that the Ministry has to deal with or whatever districts it happened in than will give this people a fair chance.”

The session was interactive and teachers were able to raise their concerns directly to the education minister.

Sayed-Khaiyum says there are teething issues and the ministry will ensure that teacher’s welfare is paramount.

“The system is not there to victimize anybody and the reforms are implemented in such a way to improve the system.”

There are instances where reforms are not being handled well by the Ministry of Education and Sayed-Khaiyum says continuous review is underway so that improvements can be made.
