“I didn’t steal anything, I was there to help”

These were the words of Veresia Sokosoko who reached out for assistance to clear his name after photos of him went viral on social media claiming he stole personal belongings of the victims of the horrific Nabou fatal accident.

Sokosoko contacted the Police to try and clear his side of the story which has to date labelled him as a heartless criminal stealing from the helpless victims.

Sokosoko says he was one of those that tried their best to help the victims.

“When we arrived at the scene, some were busy taking photos of the victims while a few others including one European lady was assisting the victims, so we tried to help in whatever way possible”

Sokosoko confirms he collected a number of items from the scene and handed it over to a police officer which he could only describe as wearing a uniform with 3 stripes.

Police have also confirmed the officer to be the Traffic officer Nadi who also confirmed receiving all items as described by Sokosoko all of which have been claimed by the victims’ families with the exception of two bags.

Sokosoko says he was taught by his parents to help and not steal and is urging those who may have taken items to do the right thing and return it to police.

“Please stop making up stories or assumptions about something you don’t know because families end up being hurt and I am being labelled a criminal when all I tried to do was help”

Commissioner of Police Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho acknowledged those who genuinely assisted the victims following the horrific accident in Nabou last weekend.
