A heavy rain alert remains in force for Yasawa and Mamanuca group, western half of Viti Levu, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands.

The Fiji Meteorological Services says a trough of low pressure lies slow moving over the group.

Meanwhile, another trough of low pressure just to the west of Fiji is expected to gradually drift east and affect the country from later today.

Expect occasional showers and few thunderstorms.

Showers increasing to rain, becoming frequent and heavy at times from tonight.
