Health Minister, Dr. Iferemi Waqainabete says there is a triage system in place at hospitals and medical centers across the country.

Waqainabete says the system enables those who are the sickest and in need of priority care to be seen first and treated.

The Health Minister made the clarification in response to comments and complainants over long waiting times at health centers.

“We have measures set in place so that those with severe illness are diagnosed and treated promptly to prevent deaths and including the formation of a task force that meets weekly to monitor the situation.”

Dr. Waqainabete also notes that given the extended wet weather and the effects of climate change, there is a prevalence of the acute feverish illnesses and the flu which has led to a surge in patients.

Outbreaks of the flu have been confirmed in the North, Central, and the Western divisions.
