Retailers Hope Potatoes Supplier Normalise Soon

November 28, 2014 7:02 pm

There is a shortage of potatoes and retailers say it could take another three weeks for supplies to normalize.

The shortage is affecting both consumers and manufacturers of potato products.

RB Patel Group Chief Operative Officer, Deepak Rathod says they don’t have much of a choice as 90-per cent of their supplies come from New Zealand where bad weather has affected potato crops

“We actually don’t have any stocks after that for a couple of weeks. We have been told there is a shortage in New Zealand as well so there is going to be issues with supply of potatoes in the next month or so.”

According to Rathod, in recent weeks, consumers have had to either go without potatoes or use them sparingly.

Local potato farming has been suspended because of an incompatible variety.
