Ministry of Employment to undergo Reforms

The Ministry of Employment, Industrial Relations & Productivity is set to undergo reforms.

Minister responsible Jioji Konrote says reforms will include a review of industrial relations legislation as well as improving OHS compliance.

Just over a month in the job and the the Minister responsible Jioji Konrote is putting in place a work-plan focused on effective reforms

“I"m working in line with government overall, reform programs, you know within government and hopefully some of the statues will impact on industrial relations with the private sector.”

While Konrote is mum on the specific legislations up for review, he is realistic about how much can be done

“My focus area you know, next month we know we’ll be talking about the budget, so I’ll make sure you know we work within the budget and what we need improved in the Ministry, hopefully we will get what we ask for, because without funding, there’s not to much we can do about improvements within the ministry.”

One of the key initiatives of the Ministry will be the implementation next year of a new national minimum wage.
