Driver allegedly fired for refusing to drive faulty bus

A bus driver has allegedly been terminated from work because he refused to drive a faulty bus.

Vijay Kumar, of Bau Road Nausori claims he was fired by the management of Tebara Transport Limited in April this year.

Kumar had been driving for Tebara Transport for a year when he was given a bus – registration Bus 60 to drive.

He claims he refused to do so because of a fault and was subsequently fired.

Kumar then filed a complaint against his dismissal with the Land Transport Authority and the Labour Ministry.

According to Kumar’s Certificate of Mediation from the Labor Ministry, the matter was referred to Employment Relations Tribunal on the 21st of May.

The Land Transport Authority says it’s investigating.

Tebara Transport Limited management said they will not comment as it’s an internal matter and is also with the Labour Ministry.
