Cabinet has approved key reforms to strengthen national security decision-making, aimed at improving coordination and faster responses to emerging threats.
The changes include the restructuring of the National Security Council and the establishment of a new Senior Officials Committee on National Security.
The National Security Council will remain the Government’s central decision-making body on national security and foreign policy, supported by senior officials and a dedicated secretariat within the Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs.
Government says the reforms will enhance planning, coordination and response across agencies, ensuring more effective and timely decisions on critical security matters.
The changes are aligned with Fiji’s National Security Strategy 2025–2029, with a focus on keeping the country safe, prepared and responsive in an increasingly complex global environment.
