Fiji FACT Overview

May 1, 2012 7:01 pm

One of the most awaited soccer competitions in the country, the Fiji Football Association Cup Tournament (Fiji FACT) was first started in 1991 as a means to generate income for Fiji football.

The surprising fact is that the current National League point’s table leader Suva and the Fiji FACT defending champions Rewa have won only one tournament each in the 21 years of the tournament’s history.

Suva’s last win was 17 years ago and the capital side will be looking to add this year’s Fiji Fact title to their trophy cabinet.

On the other hand, neighbours Rewa are in preparation to defend their cup this
year.

Ba football club has the highest number of winnings in the history of Fiji Football Association Cup Tournament with eight title wins. Labasa Football club is ranked second on the wining list with three wins.

Although Navua has also won the tournament three times, Labasa was placed because they were runners up six times which ranks the northerners second.

Lautoka is placed fourth in the list.

Meanwhile, in the first round of the Fiji FACT matches this Sunday, Suva will play Nadi at 12.30pm, Nadroga faces Tavua at 11am, Ba meets Navua at 2pm while Lautoka battles Rewa at 3.30pm.

All first round matches will be played at Churchill Park in Lautoka.
