Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum and Member of Parliament, Mitieli Bulanauca.

Member of Parliament, Mitieli Bulanauca’s shady past was brought up in parliament this morning.

Two days ago, Bulanauca had said that Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum need to cast out the devil from within themselves.

Sayed-Khaiyum in response highlighted that at the height of the May 2000 coup, Bulanauca had publicly called Indo-Fijian leaders ‘tevoro’ or devil.

“I have said this in Parliament before and there is a documentary evidence on this where you are talking on it in front of civic towers. He stood up and said who is the head of legislature, Mahendra Chaudhary Kaidia (Indo-Fijian) Hindu tevoro. Who is the head of the judiciary Reddy Hindu Tevoro. Nobody is a Tevoro and nobody is a devil.”

The Attorney General adds no one has the right to call anyone ‘tevoro’.

Defence Minister Inia Seruiratu also hit out at Bulanauca, for alleging in parliament that the Prime Minister had killed someone.

He says the SODELPA MP acted in a cowardly manner and tried to abuse the parliamentary privilege.

“Why bring that issue into parliament if he does not have concrete evidence about the case. He has two options as an honourable member; either apologise to the Prime Minister or go outside and face the media. You’ve been running away from the media with no comments, do the honourable thing – face the media, tell them the truth otherwise that’s a cowardly act, hiding behind the curtain of parliamentary privilege. Don’t bring rubbish into this House.”

Yesterday, FBC News attempted to get clarifications from Bulanauca who refused to take any questions.

In his parliamentary address, he had alleged that the Prime Minister had people killed, but has not provided any evidence.
