Fijiana falls in Cape Town 7s quarterfinal

December 15, 2019 9:37 pm

The Fijiana have bowed out of the Cup competition at the Cape Town 7s after going down 38-7 to Australia in the quarterfinal.

Asinate Savu shocked the Australians in the first minute with a typical Fijiana flair try involving Tokasa Seniyasi, Captain Raijieli Daveua and Vasiti Solikoviti.

Fiji kept on applying the pressure and nearly scored again through Ana Maria Naimasi but she stepped into touch just a meter from the try line.

The Olympic gold medalists Australia had to work hard for their first points via a try to Cassandra Staples just seconds away from half time before Faith Nathan scored their second try as they led the Fijiana 14-7 at half time.

Nathan started the second half just like she ended the first spell with Australia’s third try after she went straight thorough the Fijiana defense.

Raijieli Daveua was sent off moments later and Australia took advantage with Cassandra Staples crashing over for her second try.

Jakya Whitfield scored two successive tries in a space of a minute as the Aussies totally dominated the second half.
