A 16-year-old boy is dead, believed to have drowned when he was swept away into a flooded drain.

Police Spokesperson Ana Naisoro has confirmed that National Fire Authority officers and their team located the body of the boy this hour.

The Year 10 student was reportedly swept into the culvert while trying to retrieve a rugby ball earlier this afternoon.

The incident occurred at the Nadera Ground opposite Duvula Road.
