Banuve Tabakaucoro is back in the game once again as he has been selected to represent Fiji in the 2019 IAAF World Athletics Championships in Doha.

The championship begins from this Friday.

His selection comes exactly a year after him stepping down from competing following the career-ending injury he sustained while playing rugby.

Tabakaucoro after making his comeback proved his strength when he ran a time of 10.83 seconds in his first race and dropping it further down to 10.60 seconds in his 2nd race of the season.

The 25-year-old represented Fiji at the Pacific Games as well where he completed his sprint double/triple after winning the 200m and anchoring home the 4x100m relay ahead of Samoa’s Olympic hopeful, Jeremy Dodson.

He also won the 100 meters race, clocking in a time of 10.31 seconds.

Tabakaucoro and his coach Bola Tafao’ou have been spending strenuous hours at the gym and track since the Pacific Games preparing themselves for the World Championships.

They are very optimistic of a good outing as Tabakaucoro has his sights set on hoping to qualify for Japan 2020.

The athlete coach duo will have their trip funded by IAAF, Athletics Fiji and Fiji National Sports Commission.

They depart for Doha today.

Athletics Fiji has wished both well for the tournament.
