Every year 80 to 100 people are diagnosed with cervical cancer at the CWM hospital.

CWM Head of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. James Fong says the age group of women diagnosed with this killer disease is mostly 30-50.

Dr. Fong has also highlighted some of the symptoms of the disease.

“Anybody who has some abnormal bleeding pattern in their period need to be checked for cervical cancer. It doesn’t mean that they got cervical cancer they just need to get checked for it. So the most common symptom is abnormal bleeding, sometimes they have pain but usually the pain is late and sometimes there is a bit of discharge.”

Dr Fong says there is a vaccination program in place that will prevent women and girls from getting cervical cancer.
