The Local Government Ministry will work with municipalities in carrying out campaigns to remove dangerous wild dogs from communities.

This was highlighted by Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama following an incident in Nadi on Friday, where a 2-year-old was attacked by a stray dog.

Bainimarama says he was saddened about the attack on Amari Whippy adding no person should suffer such a terrifying ordeal.

He says all strays will be treated as humanely as possible with sheltering and re-homing options to be explored for non-violent dogs.

The PM adds serious steps have already been taken to ensure that no one is be subjected to the mental and physical scars of such an event.

All dog owners have been urged to collar their pets and keep them restrained and Fijians should also not feed food scraps to stray dogs and maintain a safe distance.

Fijians are to call their local municipal authorities if they’re aware of an area that is frequented by a pack of wild dogs.
