Transport Minister Jone Usamate

Transport Minister Jone Usamate says they need actual data to see if there is a need for a bus fare increase.

Responding to questions posed by FBC News that a number of bus companies are claiming that high costs and no fare increase in the past 10 years are reasons why they might stop services, Usamate says the government cannot just act on these claims.

He says at the moment the Bus Fare Review Committee has been collecting relevant data from bus companies and the public.

Usamate also says that bus companies have also been enjoying tax breaks and low fuel prices over the years.
He says facts and figures are important as it backs up the need for developing a policy.
