One of the heritage sites under the National Trust of Fiji, the Samabula Sikh temple in Suva has undergone a major facelift.

The 96-year-old Gurudwara Sahib is almost a century old and has stood the test of time.

Today was another milestone for the temple, with the opening of the five newly-installed domes which were bought from Amritsar, Punjab in India.

“We have five domes on top of the Gurudwara. That’s what we wanted to bring but we did not have facilities in Fiji so we have to import it from Amritsar.”

This will serve as a spiritual home for the Sikh faith.

Gurudwara head priest, Preetam Singh says such scenic architecture had never been assembled in Fiji.

Established in 1923, the temple bears the hard work and perseverance of devotees.

The official inauguration ceremony included a multi-faith gathering.
