The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Justice, Law and Human Rights

It’s been revealed that the parliamentary Standing Committee on Justice Law and Human Rights is finding difficulties in conducting public consultations.

This consultation is in regards to the Adoption Bill, Code of Conduct Bill and the Registration of Sex Offenders Bill.

This has been confirmed in parliament by Speaker Ratu Epeli Nailatikau after the committee which determines the business to be considered by Parliament each sitting day unanimously agreed for the Standing Committee on Justice, Law and Human Rights to provide its reports at a future sitting.

“The business committee has duly taken note of the challenges faced by the Committee in conducting public consultations and in that regard I therefore resolve that the Committee on Justice, Law and Human Rights will table its report at the future sitting of parliament.”

The Adoption Bill is an act to provide for local and inter-country adoption of children and access to information regarding adoption and for related matters.

The Code of Conduct Bill is an act to establish a code of conduct and for other matters as prescribed under section 149 of the constitution of the republic of Fiji.

Meanwhile, the Registration of Sex Offenders Bill is an act to provide for the establishment of a register of sex offenders, the registration and reporting obligations of sex offenders and other related matters.
