Man alleged to have stolen 420 mobile phones remanded

A man alleged to have stolen 21 cartons containing 420 Samsung Galaxy J6 mobile phones has been remanded by the Suva Magistrates court.

Mesake Leleiwasa is charged with one count each aggravated burglary and theft.

It is alleged that Leleiwasa with others on January 18th, forcefully entered into the property of Fiji Rugby Union and stole or removed the mobile phones in box.

The 420 devices were valued at $354.50 each and was the property of Vodafone Fiji Limited.

Police prosecutor served full phase disclosures to the accused.

The Magistrate had refused bail for the accused and remanded him in custody on the grounds that the charge is an indictable offence and has to be dealt with by the High Court.

He also added that if the accused was released on bail, the safety of the community would be in question.

The matter was adjourned to February 7th.
