The Consumer Council of Fiji has inspected 45 retail outlets in Suva, Nasinu, Nausori, Korovou, Lami and Navua this month in the lead up to Christmas.

This was done to ensure that traders do not violate consumer protection laws and to safeguard consumer rights.

The council says the inspections revealed common unethical practices.

The consumer watchdog adds while there are traders offering specials and ensuring that they give honest deals to consumers, the council is aware that some traders may exploit consumers.

Through investigations, the council also found instances where the sale prices of goods advertised in dailies and catalogues were either higher or lower than the prices in store.

Consumers are reminded to be highly vigilant when shopping this Christmas and report any unfair trade practices.
