The Fiji Sugar Corporation is urging farmers to start land preparation and start planting cane.

FSC chief operating officer Navin Chandra says the rainy season has started and many parts of the sugar belt areas have started receiving rainfall.

Chandra says on the other hand, rain in the Western Division hasn’t been enough but land preparation should be underway so that sugarcane can be planted as soon as sufficient rainfall is received.

He adds farmers can use the 30 tractors made available to them by FSC.

" The weather is very conducive now. It is the best time for doing land preparation and now with some rain, we are able to do the planting. These tractors are hired out at cane planting grant rate and is being utilized around the country.’

Chandra says farmers should start planting now for better yield for 2019.
