A new Government by November end

With the issuance of the 2018 Election Writ today by the President – Major General Retired Jioji Konrote has directed that a new government post-election needs to be confirmed by November end.

Reading out the Writ for the Chair of the Electoral Commission, Suresh Chandra, the President directed a clear timeline as legislated under the 2013 Constitution.

“You must cause a Poll to be taken on the 14th day of November, 2018 and that you may cause pre-poll voting and postal voting prior to the 14th day of November, 2018 and I command you to endorse the names of the candidates elected as members of Parliament and return this Writ on or before the 28th day of November, 2018.”

Meanwhile with the one day polling on November 14th, voting venues will be open from 7.30am closing at 6pm on the day across the country.

The first results coming in from the voting centers are expected to trickle in after 6pm with the composition of Parliament and the ruling party expected to be confirmed within 48 hours of the polling day.
