Friends of Fiji Heart Foundation has carried out more than five hundred heart surgeries since their first mission begun in 2006.

They are on their thirteenth visit to Fiji and Foundation founder and Cardiac Surgeon Parma Nand says they’ve conducted more than twenty surgeries in the past few days.

Nand says they’ve mostly operated on valvular heart disease patients, replacing their valves with mechanical metal valves and tissue valves.

“Patients have come from all over Fiji and today is our final day. Over the years we have predominantly operated on rheumatic valvular heart disease patients and some Coronary artery bypass procedures over the years however our main group of patients are valvular heart disease patients”

Dr Parma Nand says they’re looking at assisting as many patients as possible with the least amount of expenses.

The Foundation is a New Zealand registered charitable trust which has been carrying out various surgeries in the country especially for those who are not able to afford it or access treatment overseas.
