Doctors should consider interactions with a patient or their relative an opportunity to show compassion, kindness, empathy and support for their circumstances, with hope that they will understand and abide by their advice.
Health Minister, Rosy Akbar says doctors should not only lead in the delivery of services but also in improving the quality of services – ensuring that they enhance the patient’s experience.
Speaking at the 60th Scientific Conference in Pacific Harbour yesterday, the minister challenged doctors, in their role as practitioners, educators and administrators to do more to advocate on the prevention of non-communicable diseases.
Akbar adds that doctors should be examples of good health and healthy living, and lead communities to accept and practice behaviours that are conducive to wellness and happiness.
She also brought to the forefront the great inroads being made in the medical sector through the Government’s continuous support as it has committed $355 million in the 2018/2019 Budget.
The theme of the conference was “How to Improve the Health System – To Make Medicine Safe”.
