Not guilty pleas for alleged rapists

A man who allegedly raped and assaulted his niece in Navua earlier this year yesterday pleaded not guilty to his charges.

The man is charged with one count of rape and one count of sexual assault.

It is alleged that on April 29th he allegedly raped a child who was under 13 years of age.

The victim’s maternal uncle also allegedly sexually assaulted the child on May 11th.

The prosecution informed the High court that there were admissions on the first charge.

The defense informed the court that they will be challenging the admission and will be filing voir dire grounds.

The matter has been adjourned to the 24th of this month.

Meanwhile, another man who allegedly raped a woman in Nasinu on April 10th this year also pleaded not guilty to one count of rape.

The matter has been transferred to High court Judge Justice Salesi Temo.

The case will be recalled on the 20th of this month.
