Fiji makes a winning start in Hamilton 7s

The Fiji Airways mens 7’s side has made a winning start in the inaugural Hamilton tournament, thumping Wales 28-nil in the first pool match.

The side led 14-nil at the half time break, with tries coming in from Eroni Sau and Paula Dranisinukula.

Fiji was down to six men when Mesulame Kunavula was shown a yellow card in the dying minutes of the first half.

Replacements, Jasa Veremalua and Kalione Nasoko scored two more tries for the national team.

Captain Jerry Tuwai says he is overwhelmed with the support adding that it felt like they were playing at home.

“We came inside and it’s like playing in national stadium. A lot of Fijian supporters and we are thankful that they came in numbers to support us.”

Fiji plays Spain in its next match at 3.02pm and then faces Australia in the final match at 6.50pm.

The cup quarterfinals starts at 11.36am tomorrow, the semis will be played at 3.49pm while the final kicks off at 7.03pm.
