Forty-two Fijian security workers will soon leave for employment on Manus Island, Papua New Guinea.

Manus Island is one of many offshore Australian immigration detention facilities where these men will be based at for 1 year.

The personnel were today farewelled by the Minister for Employment Jone Usamate.

Usamate told the workers that they will be representing Fiji.

“We understand the situation where they are going to work in is not an easy situation but I think that the people that have been selected and given the experience of them been in the Middle East and they should be able to cope with that situation.”

The security workers will be paid approximately 6 thousand Fijian dollars every month.
