Ministry of Women to hold first symposium for older persons

The Ministry of Women, Children and poverty Alleviation will hold its first symposium on older persons this week to bring stake holders together to talk about the pertinent issues relating to ageing in Fiji.

Minister, Mereseini Vuniwaqa says this is to translate the policies and laws in the 2013 constitution into practical terms.

“We need to answer pertinent questions like what we have done, what we need to do and where do we see ourselves in the years to come in relation to our ageing population."

She adds that aligned to this year’s theme for senior citizens day which was, “Taking a stand against Ageism” and the challenge is for everyone to consider ageism – the negative attitudes and discrimination based on age and the detrimental impact it has on older people.
