December 9, 2016 3:53 am

Nurses play a vital role in delivering effective health care services and treatment to the public.

Minister for Health and Medical Services Rosy Akbar says nurses still need training in areas of proper assessment, prevention and management – especially for foot complications.

She says nurses represent a huge part of the Health Ministry as they deal with human lives every day and are expected to give people the utmost care.

“They are the first contact people for patients who enter our health centers and hospitals and I’ve said that nurses are the face of my Ministry. So at this point of time I would like to plea to all the nurses that are involved within this area, to ensure that our clients who enter our hospitals are given the best advice and best service and the best treatment.”

The Australian government has been working with the Fiji Health Sector Support Programe in making sure local nurses get the best training in public health, especially those associated with diabetes.
