Blitzboks crowns Dubai champion

South Africa are the 2016 Dubai 7s champions after defeating the Vodafone Fiji 7s 26-14 in the final early this morning.

Fiji was trailing 7-14 at halftime.

The Blitzboks scored early tries from Cecil Afrika and Branco du Preez to put them into an early lead, however, Fijian captain Osea Kolinisau fired back to make it 14-7 at half-time.

From the restart, Jerry Tuwai touched down under the posts, with the conversion levelling the score at 14-14, but shortly afterwards Chris Dry scored to edge South Africa into the lead.

That try gave his team the Blitzboks momentum and it was a final try from Seabelo Senatla that sealed the match, bringing his tally to 11 tries in the tournament.

The next leg will now be in Cape Town next weekend.

Meanwhile, England beat Wales faced off in the battle for bronze while Australia finished the day in fifth.

Looking at the points standings, South Africa tops the table with 22 points followed by Fiji with 19 points. England in third place with 17 points, Wales settled in 4th place with 15 points while Australia in 5th place with 13 points.
