Perpetrators of domestic violence will be produced in court within twenty-four hours under a new directive.
Acting Police Commissioner Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho says this will include police officers alleged to be involved in domestic violence.
In an exclusive interview with FBC News, Acting Police Commissioner Qiliho says domestic violence within the force is a ‘no drop’ policy case.
“If somebody does that I have given out clear warnings that it never be condoned and they will be produced through the courts as well, like every other citizen rather than trying to deal with it internally. Just this previous Monday, I have given clear directives that I want perpetrators produced in court within a 24 hour period from when the offence was done.”
Qiliho says there was a significant rise in reported domestic violence cases last year, 26 cases in October, 32 in November and 42 in December, perhaps because leaders have started speaking out on the issue.
He adds if the measures he has put in place to curb domestic violence do not work and the statistics do not go down, then they will come up with stronger courses of action to fight the problem.
