Foreign Affairs Committee to look into allegations of torture

Parliamentary standing committee on Foreign Affairs is now looking into allegations of torture that was highlighted by lawyer Aman Ravindra-Singh to overseas media.

Committee Chair Netani Rika confirmed to FBC News they would be looking into the allegations and seeking submissions from those alleged to have been tortured.

Lawyer Ravindra-Singh who first reported the incidences to overseas media says he will make a statement this afternoon.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro says they have yet to receive any formal complaint from Ravindra-Singh on the matter in which he alleges his staff were tortured and threatened by security forces.

Ravindra-Singh told overseas media that his involvement representing those charged with sedition is the reason for the alleged torture and threats.
