The Australian government will stand with the Pacific Island nations in 2015 Paris Climate Conference at the end of this month.

This was confirmed by Australian Minister for International Development and The Pacific Steven Ciobo earlier this week.

Ciobo says Australia realises that when the Pacific Islands speak together with one voice it is a force to reckon with.

The International Climate negotiations means a lot for Pacific Island nations as a clear stand needs to be made by larger nations like Australia recording high carbon emissions.

“Australia wants to make sure that we use the board position on the green climate fund to really argue strongly that the Pacific be looked at, the concerns of the Pacific be realized and that we actually implement reforms that we know will be good for the Pacific.”

This year’s COP21 meet is considered the most important step towards a global solution since the Kyoto Protocol was agreed in 1997.
