Fiji’s team to the global climate change meeting in Paris are being familiarised with Fiji’s position on climate change.
Director Climate Change, Peter Emberson says this will ensure all the representatives are able to defend their briefs and advance issues.
“The importance for the long term goal to be peaked at 1.5 degrees Celsius rather than the 2 degrees Celsius it’s a hard ask because it has enormous economic implications when we will have to ensure that we peak our emission reduction targets to not increased temperatures above 1.5 degrees Celsius.”
Emberson says Fiji needs enormous financial assistance.
He says the Fijian delegation will be going to the Conference of Parties – COP 21 to request developed partners to assist in the financing needs of developing island countries like Fiji.
He adds the issue of loss and damage is also critical at this stage.
The 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference will be held in Paris, from November 30 to December 11.
The conference objective is to achieve a legally binding and universal agreement on climate change from all the countries.
