The Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea will be a preview to what the Vodafone Fiji 7s side will encounter at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
National coach, Ben Ryan says he is looking forward to leading the team in the regional competition, as it will give the players an idea of what they will encounter when rugby 7s makes its debut in the Olympics.
“The Pacific Games is not our number one target this year. It’s in 14 months time; and it’s not our number two target because we have a World Series to defend as well. But it’s important on a few levels; its gives me a chance to take a team to a multi-sports event. Some of the boys have never been to an athlete’s village before. People have won or lost medal in the days leading up to major competitions by getting it wrong."
The national side will depart for Port Moresby on Tuesday week.
