June 23, 2015 1:39 am

The Consumer Council is cautioning all whiskey-lovers to look out for alcohol adulteration.

A consumer lodged a complaint about a bottle of Regal Whiskey which he claims may have been tampered with.

Council Chief Executive, Premila Kumar says they approached the manufacturer, Paradise Beverages (South Pacific Distillery) for verification.

‘I feel very glad that Paradise Beverages has taken the ownership of going to Ministry of Health to dig into this matter and really find what’s happening to this product because that’s not the product they are pushing into the market and if somebody else is tampering and trying to make money out of it, that’s wrong, so we are advising the consumers that if they have come across such products, they must come forward and report the matter to us’’.

Paradise Beverages confirmed after testing the sample provided by the consumer that the contents in the bottle had properties of vinegar and not whiskey.

Consumers who may have had similar experiences are being encouraged to file their complaints with the Council or the Ministry of Health.
