Emergency areas for termites declared

The districts of Lautoka and Labasa have been declared emergency areas to limit the spread of Asian Subterranean termites.

Public Enterprises Minister – Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says the declaration will be in force for the next 6 months.

Movement of all stages of termites including eggs, or any materials hosting eggs into or out of the declared biosecurity emergency areas is strictly prohibited.

Any person who violates the declaration – commits an offence and shall be liable to the penalties as per the Biosecurity Promulgation 2008.

The declarations have been published in the Government gazette.
