Fiji Pearls name World Cup team

Fiji Netball has named a group of young athletes who will represent Fiji to the Netball World Cup.

The selection was carried out following the completion of a three weeks training in Brisbane.

17-year-old Laisani Waqa who partially dislocated her knee during the Singapore tour two months ago has been cleared by the physio.

19-year-old Sydney-based Kaitlyn Fisher is also been named to play for Fiji, she gets her eligibility through her maternal grandfather Mahameed David Khan, who was born in Fiji.

Other team memebers includes Alisi Galo, Ema Mualuvu, Lydia Pananpasa, Unaisi Rauluni, Kelera Nawai, Episake Kahatoka, Adi Vakaoca Bolakoro, Asilika Sevutia, Aliti Toribau, and Matila Vocea.

The side will be captained by Rauluni while Sevutia will be providing the assistance.

Matila Waqawai who was in camp with the team has withdrawn due to a knee injury.

The Pearls are now in Auckland for their final preparations for the World Cup before they return home this Sunday and then onwards travel to Liverpool on Friday 5 July.

The team will be the youngest Fijian team to compete at the World Cup, with an average cap of 10.2 and an average age of 22.

Five of the players are still eligible to represent Fiji at the Netball World Youth Cup 2021 that will be hosted in Suva.
