NZ resident facing murder charges denied bail

New Zealand resident Muhammad Raheesh Isoof facing murder charges has been denied bail.

The case was called at the Suva High Court via a Skype session as the accused is in Lautoka.

While delivering the bail ruling the judge stated that the prosecution has a strong case against the accused.

The judge said the charges are serious and if found guilty, Isoof will be handed a life imprisonment term.

It was also revealed in court that Isoof had changed his name in Australia before moving to New Zealand as he had been deported.

The judge said that there is a real possibility that the accused would not attend the trial if bailed.


Nausori Highlands in Nadi

The ruling also stated that the case was of public interest and the accused posed a flight risk.

Isoof is alleged to have murdered a Nadi family and dumped their bodies in the Nausori Highlands.

He is charged with 5 counts of murder and 1 count of attempted murder.

It’s alleged that between 25th and 26th of August this year, Isoof murdered carpenter, Nirmal Kumar, his 54-year-old wife Usha Devi, their 34-year-old daughter, Nileshni Kajal and her two daughters Sana aged, 11, and Samara, 8.
