Health program to address child obesity

The Fiji National University together with the Pacific Community has developed a health program to address obesity in children.

The program which is called “Healthy Child Promising Future – Promoting health in primary school settings focuses on children in Fiji and Wallis and Futuna.

Students between the ages of seven to nine will be part of this project which is funded by the French Pacific Fund 2017.

The project will also involve teachers and parents as they play an important role in addressing childhood obesity.

Under this project, children will learn about healthy eating through the use of educational resources and participate in thirty minutes of structured physical activity sessions each day.

The project was recently launched in all the schools in Wallis and Futuna and in Samabula Primary School in Suva.
