Some traffic lights around the country are not placed at its correct places.

This was confirmed by Fiji Roads Authority, Chief Executive Jonathan Moore – adding this has also been a contributing factor to road congestion.

Moore says they have identified some areas where traffic lights may be a problem when it comes to ironing out traffic issues.

“Sometimes traffic signals are not put in the right place so they’re not considered properly and have a bad effect on congestion so we’ve been very conscious because we can’t do that. So we’re making sure they’re in places where it’s desperately needed and not just stuck anywhere.”

Moore adds some traffic lights will need to be re-looked at and placed in the right places.

“From the beginning of next month, we will be having a big emphasis on changing out some of the traffic signals and adding the new ones as well. It’s an ongoing programme. We having a review right now as to how much we actually need and we believe the numbers will increase particularly in the city.”

Many Fijians say traffic lights are important because they regulate traffic safely and allow movement of traffic smoother and faster at intersections.
