February 8, 2018 6:03 pm

Efforts are underway to improve the working condition in Australian farms for Fijians who are part of the Seasonal Workers Program.

This discussion came to light after Employment Minister, Jone Usamate met with Australian Minister for International Development and Pacific, Senator Concetta Wells and representatives from the Liberal Senator and Executives of the National Farmers Federation earlier this week.

Talks between the two nations were also geared towards increasing the number of employment opportunities for Fijians.

Minister Usamate also highlighted issues of employment on the fields that were addressed to the Australian rep.

Currently a large number of Fijians are deployed to the Australian Farms under the SWP.

Usamate also had the opportunity to meet with a group of Fijian workers who were employed with Dahegam Fresh Produce in Canberra, Australia.

He emphasized the importance of working as a team so that they can maximize the benefits of the work opportunities.
