TD07F expected to affect Fiji from Thursday

Another significant Tropical Disturbance 07F is currently moving towards the Fiji group.

Fiji Meteorological Services Director Ravin Kumar confirms TD07F is currently located to the far northwest of Fiji, near Vanuatu.

Kumar says TD07F is expected to intensify into a depression and possibly affect the Fiji group from Thursday.

However, Tropical Disturbance 08F remains slow moving and the associated active trough of low pressure, cloud and rain continues to affect most parts of the country.

TD08F was located130km west-southwest of Ono-I-Lau this morning and is moving south at about 10km/hr and expected to continue moving south – away from Fiji.

A heavy rain warning remains in force for Western and Northern Viti Levu, Vanua, Levu, Taveuni, and nearby smaller Islands, Lau, Yasawa and Mamanuca Groups, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands.

Strong wind warning remains in force for land areas of Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller Islands and the Lau group.

A flood alert remains in force for low-lying areas and small streams of Fiji.

Expect periods of rain, heavy at times and a few thunderstorms over Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands and the Lau group.

However, occasional rain, heavy at times and few thunderstorms anticipated over northern and western Viti Levu, Yasawa and Mamanuca group, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands.

For the rest of Fiji, expect occasional showers and thunderstorms with heavy falls likely.

Further development of TD07F will be closely monitored and public will be appropriately advised through alert and warning as the system draws closer to the country.
