Media to report accurate information to voters

Information that has been transmitted from the Fijians Elections office or the Electoral Commission should be reported accurately by all media agencies.

This was stated by Electoral Commission Chair, Suresh Chandra.

He says the media is sort of the conduit between a voter and the information.

“Whatever information the media produces is absorbed by the voter and it is up to the voter to then siphon the information for one that is most relevant it and then use it to determine who he or she votes for. It is very important that the media ensures that it is reporting facts. Facts that are verifiable, Facts that have been actually verified.”

Meanwhile, the commission had launched and distributed Candidates and Media handbooks yesterday, specifically laying out the roles and responsibilities of parties and the media.
