Suva Marathon attracts more than a thousand runners

More than one thousand runners participated in the annual Island Chill Suva Marathon in the capital this morning.

Suva Marathon club President, Sandeep Narayan says they were overwhelmed with the huge public turnout as they battled the slight drizzle and cold morning to be part of the event.

“People have come out in numbers and there’s a lot of volunteers and a lot of people cheering. It’s so good to see people come and enjoy the charity event.”

Meanwhile 68-year-old Brent Weigner- currently ranked number one in the world has run marathons in more than a hundred countries was also part of the event.

“The event is beautiful and I think God keeps smiling on me. I ran my first marathon back in 1968 and next year will be 50 years of marathon.”

The successful event has enabled participating runners to challenge themselves to exercise, keep fit and enjoy the day.
