Police officers deployed around Lakeba

Police officers in Lakeba, Lau have been deployed to eight villages to warn residents to take precautions as they begin to experience strong winds and heavy rain.

Constable Saimoni Cakacaka told FBC News they have around fifteen officers that have been sent out.

Cakacaka says that they are seeing strong currents and have advised villagers to stay indoors.

“Our preparations this time is that we’re going to warn all the villagers about the weather, to prepare their homes before the cyclone comes – if not tonight then tomorrow morning. After this we’re going around the eight villages to warn them. We have already activated evacuation centres for the villagers as every village got their own evacuation centre. So the only thing we have to tell them is to prepare themselves today because if anything happens to them tonight or tomorrow morning they can go to the evacuation centres.”

People are being advised to monitor weather reports and take extra precautions.
