The Fiji Police Force has urged parents and guardians to take road safety seriously when it comes to their children’s safety.

To date 23 pedestrians have lost their lives due to road accidents – out of which eight victims were below the age of ten.

Director Traffic Mahesh Mishra says another major concern they have is on average one accident claims multiple lives.

“We are anticipating the school holidays that is just around the corner, they need to supervise their children – especially the way they cross the road, also children should not be playing on the road. It is also important for parents to teach their children on how to use the road. It is a major concern for the Force and we put this challenge to the parents and guardians.”

59 lives have been lost on our roads so far this year.
