Winner of 3x3 basketball championship to represent Fiji in Bali

Rusiate Katonitabua,Estelle Kainamoli and Kalesi Tawake featured in the 2018 3x3 Youth Basketball Championship

The experience of playing at the 3 by 3 Basketball Championship in Bali, Indonesia last year has really motivated Rusiate Katonitabua.

The Yat Sen Secondary School student is one of the players vying for one of the two male spots available in the national under 18 mixed team to participate at the 3×3 Youth Leadership Cup in Bali next month.

Katonitabua, and national reps Kalesi Tawake along with the Kainamoli sisters Estelle and Tiyana represented Fiji last year.

This year Basektball Fiji will select the winner of their under 18 3×3 mixed championship at the Damodar City on Friday to represent Fiji in Bali.

Rusiate Katonitabua says this year’s competition will be interesting as 3×3 basketball is getting a fair bit of attention following the recent Pacific Games in Samoa.

‘I know there’s a lot of teams out there we have big competitions we have schools like LDS mixing with Grammar, Suva schools mixing with Western Schools so yeah we got competition but we up to the challenge if we make it we probably go to Bali again’.

Meanwhile, Damodar has come on board again to sponsor the 3×3 championship on Friday which starts from 9am at Damodar City Centre in Raiwai.
