The cost of restructuring the Fiji Police Force over a five year period stands at over $125m dollars.

Minister of Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum made this statement as parliament discussed the allocation for the Fiji Police Force yesterday.

Sayed-Khaiyum says this is one of the reasons why the Police budget received an increase of $24m dollars which is to also cater for their salaries and allowances.

“Their allowances for example kerosene allowances, a few decades ago that’s what people used to use but a lot of people have moved along and this is also part of the civil service reforms.”

In an effort to deliver a quality restructure of the Fiji Police Force and the Civil Service, Sayed-Khaiyum says the government wants to get rid of the old relics of the colonial days.
