An initiative to provide overnight accommodation for women market vendors at Rakiraki Market is nearing completion.

Rakiraki Town Council – Special Administrator – Seini Raiko says engineering inspection has been completed and the tender on upgrading the market closed last Friday.

Raiko says engineers are currently analyzing the tenders and the contractors will be announced soon.

“This upgrade is an extension of the existing market, it will be an open market extension but it will specifically accommodate those who are selling under the sun and the rain.”

The $250, 000 upgrading project is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
